Rotary District 9111 donates Peace Institute Building to Olabisi Onabanjo University

As part of efforts aimed at preventing conflicts and promoting sustainable peace, members of Rotary International District 9111 yesterday donated  Peace Institute Building to the management of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye Ogun State.

In his speech,  District Governor of Rotary International District 9111, Rotarian Henry Akinyele said the Peace Institute is the District and Rotarians statement that peace must be taught, researched and practised, beginning from campuses and extending into communities.

To him, rather than waiting for conflict to happen, Rotarians chose to prevent it through education, dialogue and research.

Earlier this Rotary year, Akinyele recalled, ‘we organised a Peace Summit where participants agreed with the United Nations that quality education should include peace education. This Institute will train peace builders from different sectors of society in mediation, conflict analysis and non-violent communication’

Saying peace is everyone’s responsibility, Akinyele also added the project demonstrates the power of partnership among Rotary, Olabisi Onabanjo University, government and the wider community working together.

Specifically, he noted, ‘the United Nations also affirmed that conflict is one of the greatest causes of poverty and inequality. When communities are in conflict, schools close, farms are abandoned, businesses suffer and young people lose opportunities. 

By investing in peace, we are protecting education, livelihoods and the future of our communities.

In conclusion, he disclosed, ‘today’s commissioning is another example of Rotary keeping its promises. I must acknowledge our Immediate Past District Governor, Dr. Oluwole Kukoyi, who conceived and introduced the three-month Certificate Programme in Peace Building, Conflict Prevention and Security Studies during the 2024–2025 Rotary year.’

In her speech, Ogun State Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele noted that Rotary has made significant contribution by donating the Peace Building.

‘I want to congratulate the Vice Chancellor, management and staff of OOU for the gesture. The facility will support conflict prevention, mediation and community development. ‘ She added.

On her part, OOU Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics,  Prof. Olatundun Abosede stated the facility is an investment in peace promotion. To her, ‘we are deeply grateful to Rotarians for the cause.’

Dada, Adeleye, Akinyele to headline Women in Rotary Conference.✓✓✓Newzspy.

Rotary International District 9111, under the dynamic leadership of Rotarian Prince Henry Akinyele, is set to host a landmark Women in Rotary Conference aimed at celebrating, empowering, and amplifying the voices of women in service and leadership.

Scheduled to hold on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the Rotary Center 8, Ladoke Akintola Street Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

According to the District Governor Rotarian Prince Henry Akinyele, “The event promises to be a platform for meaningful dialogue, collaboration, and inspiration,bringing together distinguished women leaders, policymakers, and changemakers for a powerful engagement centered on the theme: “Influence, Innovation & Impact.”

Women in Rotary District 9111 chaired by Past President Lara Akinsanya, whose wealth of experience and commitment to service continues to inspire women across Rotary and beyond.

She revealed that the conference is expected to deliver insightful conversations that will further strengthen the role of women in humanitarian service.

Adding prestige to the event is an impressive lineup of special guests, including Bolaji Cecilia Dada, Lagos State Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation; Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social development and past President Rotary Club of Abeokuta; and renowned Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, who will speak on building influence and resilience as a woman.

Their participation underscores the importance of cross-sector collaboration in advancing gender inclusion and social impact.

In her contribution, District Governor-Elect Rotary International District  9111, Bukola Bakare stated, ” I am delighted about the upcoming Women in Rotary Conference of our District. This event is more than just a gathering, it is a platform to celebrate the strength, leadership, and impact of women in Rotary.

Across our district and around the world, women in Rotary International continue to break barriers, drive meaningful projects, and uplift communities. This conference provides an opportunity to connect, learn, and inspire one another to do even more.

I encourage every participant to come with an open mind, ready to share, collaborate, and leave energized to create lasting change.

Rotary International District 9111 organizes Presidents- elect Learning Seminar.✓✓✓Newzspy.

Rotary International District 9111 is set to host its Presidents- elect leadership Learning seminar between Friday and Saturday, March 6 to 7, 2026 at Festival hotel, Festac, Lagos for club presidents who will serve during the 2026-2027 Rotary year.

According to District 9111 Governor-elect, Bukola Bakare disclosed that the training seminar will equip incoming presidents with leadership skills and shared experiences to lead their clubs.

The elected incoming presidents will be trained on the expectations and responsibilities of their roles and offices.

She revealed  that past District Rotaract Representative, Alllan Ntambi from Uganda will speak on Today’s Rotaractor, Tomorrow’s Rotary leader; pioneer District 9111 Governor and Chief Medical Director  Ace Medicare Ltd,  Dr Oluwole Kukoyi will train participants on “Planning your year ahead”; and District 9111 Governor-nominee, Dr Samuel Ayetutu will speak on “ Planning meetings and providing satisfying club experience”.

Bakare added that other facilitators include: past District 9111 governor, Otunba Bola Onabadejo’s training on Rotary “Foundation fundraising strategies”; former Managing Director of Crittall Hope Plc and past District governor, Remi Bello will be training on “Telling your Rotary Story”; while Special Assistant to Akwa Ibom State Governor and District 9111 executive Secretary, Michael Effiong will speak on “Public Image and Social media” ; District 9111 Governor nominee designate, Engr Ade Oyenekan will be speaking on “ Rotary program for young leaders”; and Mr Oladele Olanike training is on “leadership and the power of a creative mind.”

Chairman of Presidents-elect Learning Seminar (PELS), past Assistant Governor Efedi Jellily added that “participants will gain in-depth knowledge on leadership, Rotary operations, strengthen their professional networks, and develop skills on team building, and project management.”

Efedi noted that “ the training is designed to hone the leadership skills of our new club presidents so that they can perform effectively and efficiently,” and urged participants to take the training program seriously.

Rotary District 9111 Learning Facilitator, past District Governor Bola Oyebade noted that “the knowledge gained will also benefit participants in other areas of their business, marriage, projects and personal finance management.”

Oyebade further stated that “the Presidents- elect learning Seminar training remains a cornerstone program aimed at capacity building, strengthening leadership, and preparing Rotary leaders at clubs level to deliver impactful humanitarian services across communities.
