The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has officially announced that the crescent moon marking the beginning of the Islamic month of Shawwal has been sighted in various locations across Nigeria. Consequently, Nigerian Muslims will celebrate Eid al-Fitr tomorrow, Sunday, March 30, 2025.

The Sultan’s announcement follows reports from moon sighting committees across the country, confirming the visibility of the new moon. The sighting signifies the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting, prayers, and spiritual reflection observed by millions of Muslims in Nigeria and around the world.

In a statement issued from the Sultan’s palace in Sokoto, His Eminence congratulated the Muslim Ummah on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast and urged them to sustain the virtues of piety, charity, and unity fostered during the holy month. He also emphasized the importance of prayers for peace, stability, and prosperity in Nigeria.

“We give thanks to Almighty Allah for granting us the opportunity to witness another Ramadan and its successful completion. As we mark Eid al-Fitr, I urge all Muslims to continue in the spirit of love, tolerance, and kindness that Ramadan teaches us,” the Sultan stated.

He further advised Muslims to use the occasion to extend goodwill to the less privileged and to reflect on the lessons of Ramadan, urging adherence to the Islamic teachings of compassion and community service.

With the official confirmation of the moon sighting, preparations for the Eid festivities have already begun across the country. Muslims are expected to gather in large congregational prayers at Eid grounds and mosques on Sunday morning to observe the special Eid prayer, after which families and communities will engage in celebrations marked by feasting, charity, and social gatherings.

Security agencies and local authorities have also assured the public of adequate measures to ensure a peaceful and safe celebration nationwide.

Eid al-Fitr, meaning the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” is a significant religious holiday in Islam, marking the end of the month-long fasting period. It is traditionally observed with special prayers, feasting, and acts of charity, in line with Islamic teachings.

Newzspy will continue to provide updates and coverage of the celebrations across different states in Nigeria. Stay tuned for more reports on how Nigerians are marking this joyous occasion.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle in the membership of the Federal Executive Council.

According to a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, two cabinet members, Mr. Wale Edun and Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa are to leave the cabinet while their replacements have been named.

Edun, until the latest development, was the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy. He has been directed to hand over to Mr. Taiwo Oyedele who is now to take over as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele was formerly a Minister of State in the ministry.

Also Mr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma (PhD .) has been named as the ministerial nominee and minister designate for the Housing and Urban Development Ministry.

The memo also directed Dangiwa to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry.

The memo stated that “all handing over and taking over processes should be completed on or before close of business on Thursday 23rd April, 2026.”

Explaining the President’s decision, Akume said: “These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

He said the President, in approving the cabinet reshuffle, has fully exercised his powers as conferred on him by Sections 147 and 148 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended).

The President thanked the outgoing ministers for their services to the nation while wishing them the best in all their future endeavours.

The President, Akume noted, equally assured all cabinet members that “the process of reinvigoration shall be continuous.”

FB_IMG_1773786661218-240x300 BREAKING NEWS: CAF Appeal Board Awards AFCON Title to Morocco After Senegal Forfeits Final.✓✓✓Newzspy Sports.

In a dramatic twist that has sent shockwaves across the football world, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Board has officially ruled that Senegal has forfeited the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final. As a result, Morocco has been declared the new champion of the prestigious tournament.

The ruling, announced earlier today, follows an extensive review of a formal protest and subsequent disciplinary proceedings surrounding the final match. While CAF has yet to release full details of the infractions that led to Senegal’s forfeiture, sources within the organization indicate that the decision was based on a breach of tournament regulations deemed significant enough to overturn the original outcome.

### A Stunning Reversal

The decision effectively rewrites the conclusion of the Africa Cup of Nations final, which had initially seen Senegal crowned champions on the pitch. However, the Appeal Board’s intervention has now nullified that result, handing Morocco one of the most controversial victories in AFCON history.

For Moroccan football fans, the ruling sparks nationwide celebrations, as the Atlas Lions add another continental title to their growing legacy. For Senegal, however, the development marks a bitter and unprecedented setback, raising questions about compliance, governance, and fair play at the highest level of African football.

### Reactions Across the Continent

Football stakeholders, analysts, and fans across Africa have reacted with a mix of surprise, debate, and concern. Many are calling on CAF to provide full transparency regarding the reasons behind the decision, as the lack of immediate detail has fueled speculation and controversy.

Officials from both football federations are expected to release statements in response to the ruling. Senegal may also explore further legal options, including appeals to international sports arbitration bodies.

### What Happens Next?

CAF is anticipated to publish a comprehensive report outlining the violations and the legal basis for its decision in the coming days. Meanwhile, attention will shift to how this ruling impacts future tournaments, disciplinary standards, and the integrity of continental competitions.

This landmark decision will undoubtedly go down as one of the most contentious moments in African football history—reshaping narratives, records, and reputations in the process.

Abuja, Nigeria — The Federal Government has announced the withdrawal of criminal complaints and a review of sanctions against two high-profile individuals involved in recent controversial incidents at Nigerian airports — Ms. Comfort Emmanson and popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, popularly known as KWAM 1.

The decision, made public on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, follows days of consultations with critical stakeholders in the aviation sector, law enforcement agencies, and airline operators.

Background to the Decision

Over the past few weeks, the Nigerian aviation sector has been rocked by two high-profile incidents involving unruly passenger behaviour — one on Ibom Air and the other on ValueJet Airlines.

In both cases, viral videos and eyewitness reports sparked nationwide debate over airport security protocols, the rights of passengers, and the conduct of airline staff.

Minister Keyamo noted that while the incidents were regrettable, they had “helped to raise public awareness about appropriate conduct within the aviation space” and underscored the need for both passengers and airline personnel to adhere strictly to established security protocols.

According to him, “It is clear that all the actors involved cannot continue to highlight the injury or injustice done to them without acknowledging their own equal culpability.”

Case 1: Ibom Air and Ms. Comfort Emmanson

On Sunday, August 10, 2025, Ms. Comfort Emmanson was involved in a mid-flight incident aboard an Ibom Air flight, during which she reportedly displayed disruptive behaviour towards crew members. Following her arrest, she was remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Facility pending prosecution.

However, after reviewing the case and taking into account her statement to the police — in which she expressed deep remorse for her actions — the government, in collaboration with Ibom Air, has decided to withdraw the criminal complaint against her.

Immediate Release: The Commissioner of Police (Airport Command) and the Police Prosecutor have been directed to take all necessary steps to facilitate Ms. Emmanson’s release this week.

Ban Lifted: The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), after appeals from the Minister, have agreed to lift the lifetime flight ban previously imposed on her. Details of this resolution will be announced by the AON.

Case 2: ValueJet, KWAM 1, and Airline Crew

The second case involved Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshall (KWAM 1), who was accused of violating airport security procedures during a ValueJet flight. The incident also involved the airline’s Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba, whose licenses were suspended.

Following a review:

Ban Reduction: KWAM 1’s flight ban has been reduced to one month.

Complaint Withdrawal: The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) will also withdraw its criminal complaint against him.

Public Engagement: FAAN will partner with KWAM 1, engaging him as an ambassador for proper airport security protocol to promote better passenger behaviour.

Crew Reinstatement: The ValueJet pilots will have their licenses restored after serving the one-month suspension and undergoing a mandatory professional re-appraisal.

Sector-Wide Response and Reforms

In response to these incidents and others in recent months, the Minister has directed a comprehensive retraining of aviation security personnel to improve their handling of disruptive passengers and de-escalation of tense situations.

Retreat Next Week: All aviation security agencies, in collaboration with relevant government bodies, will participate in a retreat next week. The session will be open to the press to ensure transparency.

Airline Staff Training: Airlines will also conduct internal sessions focused on improving staff conduct and professionalism when dealing with the travelling public.

Government’s Final Word

Minister Keyamo stressed that the decisions to grant clemency were taken on compassionate grounds, and should not be misinterpreted as the government condoning breaches of aviation laws.

“We are sending a clear message that we take safety and security in the aviation sector very seriously. We have decided to draw a line after these clemencies. Government will never pander to politically motivated views or warped legal opinions when clear encroachment of our laws are involved.”

The statement marks a significant turning point in the public handling of airport-related conflicts, balancing strict enforcement with an emphasis on conflict resolution, public education, and compassion.

Reporter’s Note:

These developments are expected to calm tensions within the aviation community and among the travelling public, while also opening new conversations about professionalism, passenger etiquette, and the role of public figures in setting examples.
