In a decisive move to crack down on environmental infractions, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) took swift action today by sealing off several establishments across various parts of Lagos State. The enforcement drive, which spanned neighborhoods such as Fagba, Iyana Ipaja, Ifako-Ijaiye, and Orile Agege, is part of LASEPA’s broader initiative to enforce environmental laws and ensure the protection of public health in the state.

The establishments affected by this operation include Chanelrose Lounge & Bar, Mama Juli Lounge & Bakery, Klub P-14 Hotel, Emmy Prince Hotel, Baltimat Industries Limited, Iju Ishaga City Hotel & Lounge, Chitec Aluminum, and Safeland Hotel. According to LASEPA, these businesses were found to be in violation of various environmental regulations, despite having been issued several prior warnings.

Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, the General Manager of LASEPA, addressed the press following the enforcement action, stressing the agency’s unyielding stance on environmental non-compliance. “Our stance on non-compliance is clear: it will not be tolerated. Businesses must acknowledge their environmental responsibilities and work hand-in-hand with the State government to ensure a cleaner and more sustainable Lagos,” Ajayi stated.

He emphasized the critical role businesses play in maintaining environmental standards and underscored that the repercussions of environmental violations extend far beyond immediate penalties. “Whatever is thrown at the environment is bound to be thrown back at us,” he warned, pointing out the potential long-term consequences of environmental abuses, which include health risks, pollution, and the deterioration of public spaces.

LASEPA’s enforcement operation is not an isolated incident but part of a sustained campaign to bring environmental offenders to book. The agency, which has ramped up its monitoring efforts in recent months, aims to address widespread disregard for environmental laws that have contributed to increased pollution, poor sanitation, and associated public health challenges across Lagos State. Establishments ranging from industrial manufacturers to hospitality venues have been under scrutiny.

Dr. Ajayi further noted that the affected businesses would remain sealed until they fully comply with the regulatory requirements set forth by the agency. This includes implementing adequate waste management practices, ensuring that emissions are within acceptable limits, and preventing noise pollution, among other regulations. Only upon meeting these conditions and demonstrating a long-term commitment to maintaining environmental standards will the businesses be allowed to reopen.

The enforcement action has been met with mixed reactions from the public. While some business owners have expressed frustration at the shutdown, many residents have praised the move, citing the urgent need to address environmental degradation in Lagos. Local communities in the affected areas, in particular, have suffered from issues such as improper waste disposal, air pollution, and noise disturbances, all of which have been exacerbated by non-compliant businesses.

As Lagos continues to grow both economically and in population, the strain on its environment is becoming more evident. LASEPA’s proactive approach reflects the State government’s broader agenda of sustainable development and public health protection. The agency has urged all businesses operating within Lagos State to take environmental regulations seriously, stressing that violations will no longer be overlooked.

Ajayi called on business owners to be proactive in addressing their environmental responsibilities. He highlighted that beyond compliance, businesses have a moral obligation to contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment for all. The General Manager also hinted at further inspections and enforcement actions in the coming months as LASEPA continues its efforts to curb environmental violations across the state.

With this bold enforcement drive, LASEPA has sent a clear message to Lagos businesses: environmental violations will no longer be tolerated, and non-compliance will come at a significant cost.

Nollywood actress Lizzy Anjorin has stirred widespread reactions on social media after publicly criticizing the mother of British-Nigerian boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, over decisions surrounding his recent visit to Nigeria during the festive season.

In a video that has since gone viral, Anjorin expressed concern over Joshua’s safety, questioning why his mother allegedly allowed him to travel to his hometown rather than ensuring he stayed in what she described as a more secure and upscale area such as Lekki, Ikoyi, or Banana Island.

According to the actress, Joshua’s status as a global sports icon should have warranted extra precautions. She argued that a “reasonable mother,” in her words, would have ensured her son stayed in an environment perceived to be safer and more controlled, especially during a high-profile visit in the festive period when travel risks are often heightened.

“Anthony Joshua’s mother is to blame,” Anjorin said in the clip. “She didn’t put her son in a better place like Lekki or Ikoyi. She watched him go back to his village for the festivities. What reasonable mother would allow that? Why couldn’t she place him somewhere like Ikoyi or Banana Island?”

Anjorin’s comments followed reports of a serious road accident involving Anthony Joshua during his stay in Nigeria. The incident reportedly occurred along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and claimed the lives of two of his close associates. Joshua himself was said to have sustained minor injuries and is reportedly in stable condition.

The tragic accident has since drawn national attention, not only because of Joshua’s celebrity status but also due to ongoing concerns about road safety and travel risks across major highways in the country.

Following Anjorin’s remarks, social media platforms have been flooded with mixed reactions. While some users agreed with her stance, arguing that high-profile individuals should take extra security measures when visiting Nigeria, others criticized her comments as insensitive and unfair, especially considering the loss of lives involved.

Several commentators also pointed out that Anthony Joshua is an adult capable of making his own decisions, stressing that blaming his mother for his travel choices was unnecessary. Others accused the actress of using the tragedy to gain attention online.

Despite the backlash, the video continues to circulate widely, fueling discussions around parental responsibility, celebrity safety, and the broader issue of infrastructure and security challenges faced by travelers in Nigeria.

As of the time of this report, neither Anthony Joshua nor his family has responded publicly to Lizzy Anjorin’s comments.

In a landmark event that underscores the transformative power of technology in healthcare, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has commissioned a cutting-edge e-Health project at the State Specialist Hospital, Akure, Ondo State. This milestone initiative, officially launched on Thursday, May 29, 2025, marks a significant step in Nigeria’s journey towards a digitally enabled health system that delivers efficient, accessible, and high-quality medical services to all citizens.

At the heart of this bold move is the vision of Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the NCC, who, in his address, emphasized the critical role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in modernizing the Nigerian healthcare sector.

“Today’s commissioning of this e-Health project reflects our shared commitment to harnessing ICT for the greater good. By integrating healthcare into our growing digital economy, we are creating a system where no one is left behind, regardless of where they live,” Dr. Maida affirmed.

He noted that the project is two-pronged in its benefits. Firstly, it brings the healthcare sector into the digital fold, enabling it to enjoy the same technological advancements that have transformed other industries. Secondly, it directly impacts citizens, empowering them to access medical care seamlessly through digital platforms—a key driver for a healthier population and a more robust economy.

With the new system in place, doctors and healthcare professionals at the State Specialist Hospital can now provide timely and accurate diagnoses, develop effective treatment plans, and ensure comprehensive follow-up care for patients. This not only improves the quality of healthcare but also enhances patient satisfaction and health outcomes.

Beyond the hospital’s immediate environment, the benefits of this project will extend to the broader community, creating a ripple effect that sets a benchmark for other healthcare institutions nationwide.

Dr. Maida also stressed the importance of collaboration in achieving this feat, acknowledging the vital contributions of stakeholders, including technology experts, healthcare professionals, and government partners.

“This project is a testament to what we can achieve when we join hands. It serves as a model that can be scaled and adapted to other regions across Nigeria, ensuring that the advantages of ICT in healthcare are felt everywhere,” he said.

Expressing heartfelt appreciation to all who contributed to the project’s success, Dr. Maida concluded by reaffirming the NCC’s commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration in Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.

“As we commission this project today, let us remember that this is just the beginning. Together, we can build a healthcare system that is modern, efficient, and accessible to all Nigerians,” he declared.

The commissioning event witnessed the presence of key stakeholders, government officials, healthcare professionals, and members of the community, all united by a shared vision of a healthier, digitally connected Nigeria.

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – In a poignant reminder of both resilience and unwavering family devotion, Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, often referred to as Saudi Arabia’s “Sleeping Prince,” has quietly marked his 36th birthday this week while still in a coma—an unbroken state he has remained in for almost two decades.

The young royal’s life took a tragic turn in 2005 when he was involved in a catastrophic car accident while studying at a military college. The crash resulted in a severe traumatic brain injury, leaving Prince Al-Waleed in a coma from which he has never regained full consciousness. Since then, he has been under constant medical care at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, where he is supported by life-sustaining equipment and a dedicated medical team.

Prince Al-Waleed is a great-grandson of King Abdulaziz, the founder of modern Saudi Arabia, and a grandson of the esteemed Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz. Though not in the immediate line of succession to the Saudi throne, he holds close familial ties to the reigning monarch, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, his great-uncle. His noble lineage places him firmly within the influential circles of the House of Saud.

Throughout the years, Prince Al-Waleed’s father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, has remained a symbol of unwavering hope and deep faith. Rejecting medical advice to discontinue life support, Prince Khaled has consistently voiced his belief in the possibility of divine intervention and a miraculous recovery for his son. This steadfast devotion has captured the hearts of many across Saudi Arabia and the broader Arab world.

Images and brief video clips of Prince Al-Waleed occasionally surface on social media, where they garner widespread attention and heartfelt prayers from the public. In these rare glimpses, the Sleeping Prince is seen receiving care, surrounded by family members who often speak to him, hoping to awaken a response.

Despite his prolonged condition, the prince’s birthday this year was observed in private, attended by close family members and medical staff, who continue to surround him with love and prayers. His story remains a powerful testament to hope, endurance, and the strength of familial bonds in the face of unimaginable trials.

As Saudi Arabia continues to march forward with sweeping social and economic reforms under Vision 2030, the enduring saga of the Sleeping Prince stands as a poignant human story amid the kingdom’s rapid modernization—a reminder that some battles, especially those of the heart, transcend politics and time.

The Al Saud family has ruled Saudi Arabia since its founding in 1932. King Abdulaziz Al Saud, often referred to as Ibn Saud, united the disparate tribes of the Arabian Peninsula to form the modern kingdom. Today, the royal family numbers in the thousands, with various branches holding significant political, military, and business influence. Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled’s lineage traces directly to the core of this powerful dynasty.

Public support for Prince Al-Waleed and his family remains strong. Many Saudis and well-wishers across the Middle East continue to pray for his recovery, with some viewing his enduring life as a testament to faith and perseverance.

As the world marks another year in the Sleeping Prince’s life, the hope for a miracle remains alive—a silent prayer echoed by thousands who have followed his story for nearly twenty years.
