The Dangote Group has officially refuted recent claims regarding the projected pricing of petrol from its refinery, following speculative reports in various media outlets. Specifically, a headline published in Punch Newspapers on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, suggested that independent petroleum marketers were projecting a price of N600 per litre for petrol produced by the Dangote Refinery.
In response, the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Mr. Anthony Chiejina, issued a firm statement to clear the air. Mr. Chiejina categorically denied any involvement of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) in discussions related to the pricing of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from the Dangote Refinery.
Mr. Chiejina emphasized that the Dangote Group has no formal business relationship with IPMAN at this time. “IPMAN is not our business partner yet, and we have not engaged in any discussions with them regarding the pricing of PMS. They hold no mandate or authority to represent the Dangote Group in any capacity, whether in a positive or negative light,” he stated.
The Dangote Group expressed concern over the misleading information being circulated and urged the public to disregard such speculative announcements. Mr. Chiejina highlighted the potential impact of these unverified claims, noting that they could cause unnecessary panic and confusion among consumers and stakeholders in the petroleum sector.
Speculation and misinformation can have serious consequences, especially in a sensitive sector like energy. We urge the public to remain calm and to rely only on verified information from our official channels, Mr. Chiejina added.
In an effort to maintain transparency and provide accurate information, the Dangote Group reiterated its commitment to keeping stakeholders informed through its established communication channels. The company assured the public that any official announcements regarding petrol pricing or other significant developments would be communicated directly via these channels.
“We have a responsibility to our stakeholders and the public to ensure that all information concerning our operations is accurate and timely. We encourage everyone to stay informed through our official platforms, where we will continue to share updates as necessary,” Mr. Chiejina concluded.
The Dangote Refinery, which is poised to be one of the largest in the world, has been a focal point of interest within the energy sector, both locally and internationally. As the refinery nears operational status, the company is keen to ensure that all discussions surrounding its output are based on factual information and not on speculation or assumptions.
