DSS Dismisses 115 Officers Over Gross Misconduct, Warns Public Against Impostors

By Newzspy.ng.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has dismissed 115 personnel from its ranks for various acts of misconduct, reinforcing the agency’s ongoing commitment to discipline, professionalism, and integrity in Nigeria’s security architecture.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the DSS revealed that the dismissals followed comprehensive internal investigations which confirmed that the affected officers had violated the agency’s code of conduct and professional ethics.

DSS Reaffirms Zero Tolerance for Indiscipline

The intelligence agency emphasized that the disciplinary measure was part of its effort to sustain a culture of accountability and ethical responsibility within the organization.

“The DSS will continue to uphold the highest standards of discipline and professionalism. Those found wanting will face appropriate sanctions,” the statement noted.

The Service also reiterated that it remains committed to purging itself of bad elements who tarnish its image, while rewarding officers who embody the DSS values of loyalty, vigilance, and honesty.

Public Advised to Beware of Fake DSS Operatives

The DSS also issued a strong warning to members of the public against dealing with individuals claiming to be DSS officers without proper identification.

According to the statement, there have been growing cases of impostors using the DSS name to extort or deceive citizens, an act the Service described as a criminal offence punishable under Nigerian law.

“We urge members of the public to be cautious and report any suspicious person claiming to be a DSS officer. Verify before you cooperate. Impersonation of security officials is a serious offence,” the agency cautioned.

Citizens are encouraged to verify the authenticity of any engagement involving the Service through official DSS communication channels or the nearest DSS office.

Institutional Reforms and Internal Cleansing

The latest dismissal is seen as part of a broader institutional reform process aimed at ensuring that Nigeria’s foremost intelligence agency remains efficient, trustworthy, and people-focused.

Security analysts commend the move as a positive step toward rebuilding public confidence in national security institutions, particularly in an era where integrity and accountability in law enforcement are under close public scrutiny.

The DSS assured Nigerians that it would continue to enhance internal oversight mechanisms and strengthen operational transparency in line with its constitutional mandate to safeguard national security.

About the DSS

The Department of State Services (DSS), established in 1986, is Nigeria’s leading domestic intelligence agency responsible for internal security, counterterrorism, and intelligence gathering. It plays a critical role in maintaining national stability and supporting other security agencies across the country.
