Osogbo, Nigeria – March 22, 2025

In response to the resurgence of violent communal clashes among the neighboring towns of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun, the Osun State Government has declared an immediate and indefinite 24-hour curfew in the affected areas. This decisive action follows disturbing reports and video evidence showing renewed hostilities that have led to loss of lives and destruction of property within the last 24 hours.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, in a strongly worded statement, condemned the resurgence of violence, expressing deep sadness over the situation. He emphasized that the government will not tolerate any form of unrest that threatens the safety of citizens, public order, and economic activities in the state.

Security Measures and Enforcement

To ensure strict compliance with the curfew and restore normalcy, the Governor has ordered a joint security operation involving multiple agencies. Security operatives, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Amotekun Corps, have been deployed to enforce the curfew, maintain law and order, and prevent further escalation of the crisis.

Security personnel will conduct 24-hour surveillance in the affected communities, and any individual or group found violating the curfew or inciting further violence will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly. The government has assured residents that anyone responsible for the recent violence will face the full weight of the law.

Call for Peace and Stakeholders’ Intervention

Governor Adeleke has also summoned an urgent stakeholders’ meeting to find a lasting solution to the persistent communal crisis. The meeting will involve:

HRM Oba Peter Oluwole Akinyooye, the Olufon of Ifon

HRM Oba Ashiru Olatoye Olaniyan, the Olobu of Ilobu

HRM Oba Yusuf Omoloye Oyagbodun (II), the Elerin of Erin Osun

Other key community leaders and stakeholders

The discussion will focus on identifying the root causes of the crisis, fostering dialogue, and establishing long-term peace agreements to prevent future conflicts. The Governor urged all sons and daughters of the three communities, as well as their traditional rulers, to work towards peace and harmonious coexistence.

Governor’s Sympathy and Warning Against Violence

Expressing sympathy for families affected by the conflict, the Governor extended condolences to those who have lost loved ones and assured them that the government is taking all necessary steps to bring justice, peace, and stability to the region. He warned that any individual, group, or organization found fueling the conflict—either by direct involvement or incitement—would face severe consequences.

Compliance and Public Awareness

Residents of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun are strongly advised to remain indoors and comply with the curfew order to avoid confrontation with security forces. Movement in and out of these communities is strictly restricted, and any unauthorized gathering or activity will be considered a violation of the curfew order.

The government reassured the public that this action is necessary to prevent further loss of life and property while working towards a permanent resolution.

Conclusion

As tensions remain high, the Osun State Government has urged all parties involved to embrace dialogue and peaceful resolution instead of resorting to violence. The administration reaffirmed its commitment to upholding law and order, ensuring that every citizen enjoys peace, security, and prosperity.

The situation remains under close monitoring, and updates will be provided as events unfold.
