President Tinubu Celebrates Customs Comptroller-General Adeniyi on His 59th Birthday, Lauds Transformational Leadership. √√√ Newzspy.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, on the occasion of his 59th birthday, celebrated on January 19, 2025.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President commended Adeniyi for his remarkable contributions and innovative leadership since assuming office as the 14th Comptroller-General of Customs in June 2023.

Driving Digital Transformation and Efficiency

Under Adeniyi’s tenure, the Nigeria Customs Service has witnessed unprecedented progress, particularly in the areas of digitalisation and automation of its operations. This has streamlined processes, enhanced transparency, and significantly improved service delivery. The digital transformation agenda has not only modernised the agency but also strengthened its ability to meet and surpass revenue targets, which has greatly contributed to the national economy.

President Tinubu lauded the renewed professionalism and heightened morale among Customs officers, attributing this to the Comptroller-General’s focus on capacity building, welfare enhancement, and fostering a culture of high performance.

Tackling Smuggling with Innovative Strategies

Highlighting Adeniyi’s exceptional efforts in combating smuggling, the President praised the introduction of creative and effective strategies aimed at tackling this longstanding issue. These include skill acquisition programs for youths in border communities, providing them with viable alternatives to smuggling activities, and fostering engagements with traditional institutions to build stronger community partnerships.

These initiatives have not only reduced smuggling but have also promoted socio-economic development in vulnerable areas. Additionally, Adeniyi’s leadership has emphasised effective communication and mutual respect between the Customs Service and the public, fostering a positive image for the agency.

Seizures of Contraband: The agency has recorded significant successes in intercepting illicit items, including arms, ammunition, and other contraband, thereby enhancing national security.

Revitalisation of the Comptroller-General’s Annual Conference: This platform has become a crucial forum for reviewing operations, assessing performance, and strategising for the future. It reflects Adeniyi’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovation within the service.

Recognising a Legacy of Excellence

President Tinubu attributed these achievements to Adeniyi’s over three decades of dedicated service and his ability to adapt to changing times. His deep understanding of the customs landscape and commitment to excellence have left an indelible mark on the agency and the nation at large.
