Tanker Fire Disaster in Jigawa: President Tinubu Deploys High-Level Federal Delegation, Orders Swift Safety Measures.√√√Newzspy.

In response to the devastating tanker fire in Majia, Jigawa State, which tragically claimed over 100 lives on Tuesday night, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has swiftly mobilized a high-level federal delegation to the scene. The President directed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, to lead the delegation in assessing the situation and offering support to those affected.

The delegation is comprised of key federal officials including the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar; the Minister of Transportation, Senator Saidu Alkali; the Corps Marshal of the Federal Roads Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Shehu Mohammed; and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North West), Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai. Their mission is to meet with local authorities, visit the site of the incident, and check on the injured who are currently receiving medical care.

Immediate Aid and Support for Victims

In a statement released by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the horrific incident, extending his heartfelt condolences to the families who lost loved ones in the inferno. He also assured the nation that the government would offer immediate relief to those affected. This includes the delivery of emergency aid, such as medical supplies, food, and shelter for the 50 victims currently being treated in hospitals, and others impacted by the blaze.

The President emphasized the need for urgent federal intervention to alleviate the suffering of the people affected by the fire. “At this time of immense loss and grief, we stand firmly with the government and the people of Jigawa,” the President said. He expressed hope for divine comfort for the bereaved families and prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the deceased.

Strengthening Fuel Transportation Safety

President Tinubu used the occasion to reiterate his administration’s commitment to improving safety standards for fuel transportation across Nigeria. He directed the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) to urgently review current protocols and safety measures in place for fuel tankers, especially those involved in long-distance or night-time travel. The President specifically called for increased night patrols, the stricter enforcement of safety regulations, and other mechanisms to enhance the safety of highways nationwide.

He stressed that those found to have violated safety standards will be held accountable for their actions. “This tragic incident is a wake-up call for all stakeholders involved in fuel transportation in Nigeria. We must take swift and comprehensive steps to prevent the recurrence of such disasters,” the President said. He further emphasized that the protection of lives and property remains a top priority of his administration.

Federal Commitment to Preventing Future Tragedies

President Tinubu’s swift action underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to preventing further tragedies of this kind. By sending senior officials to assess the situation first-hand, the government aims to provide timely and necessary relief to victims while ensuring that those responsible for the negligence leading to the fire are brought to justice.

The tanker fire disaster in Majia is a somber reminder of the critical need for enhanced safety standards on Nigeria’s roads. The federal government, in collaboration with state and local authorities, is expected to introduce stricter measures to prevent future occurrences, especially given the regularity of fuel tanker accidents in various parts of the country.

This incident has sent shockwaves through the nation, as it continues to grapple with the tragic loss of over 100 lives. As families mourn and communities rally together in the aftermath, the government’s response and its proposed measures will be crucial in ensuring that such a devastating event does not happen again.

President Tinubu concluded his statement by reaffirming the government’s unwavering commitment to road safety and the protection of Nigerian citizens. He also stressed that the well-being of the nation’s people would always be at the heart of his administration’s policies.
