CJN Kekere-Ekun Unveils Agenda to Transform Nigeria’s Judiciary.√√√Newzspy.

In a bold declaration of her vision for Nigeria’s judiciary, the newly appointed acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, has vowed to elevate the judiciary to new heights, restore its reputation, and strengthen public trust in the nation’s judicial system. Justice Kekere-Ekun, who was sworn in by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at a ceremony held in the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa on Friday, emphasized that achieving these goals will require collective effort and unwavering commitment from all stakeholders.

Speaking after her inauguration, Justice Kekere-Ekun articulated her agenda with a focus on restoring public confidence in the judiciary. She acknowledged the challenges facing the judicial arm of government and called for unity among judicial officers, legal practitioners, and citizens to address these issues. “We will make sure that people have more confidence in the judiciary,” she said. “I believe that it is not a one-man job. We all have to be on board because we all see the areas that are in need of improvement.”

Justice Kekere-Ekun stressed that the judiciary’s improvement is essential for the nation’s progress. She urged every Nigerian to contribute to this effort, highlighting the importance of integrity and fairness in the pursuit of justice. “A better judiciary is for the benefit of the entire nation. Whatever the shortcomings we see today, we are all members of society. If we want to see a better society, if we want to see improvement, let the improvement start with each and every one of us and our approach to justice.”

One of the key areas Justice Kekere-Ekun intends to focus on is the process of judicial appointments. She recognized that this issue has been a significant concern for many Nigerians and assured that her tenure would bring greater scrutiny and transparency to the process. She also underscored the need for discipline within the judiciary, both on the bench and at the bar, noting that these are critical factors in maintaining the credibility of the justice system.

“Let us all have faith in the system,” she continued. “We must be particular about the process of appointment, as it is a source of significant concern. The issue of discipline on the bench and at the bar is another aspect that we will look into. By the grace of God, at the end of my tenure, we should be able to have a judiciary that we will all be proud of.”

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio; the just-retired Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola; former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed; justices of the Supreme Court; senior judicial officers; and members of the Federal Executive Council. Justice Kekere-Ekun’s family, including her husband, Mr. Akin Kekere-Ekun, and their children, were also present to witness the historic event.

Justice Kekere-Ekun’s appointment as acting CJN marks a significant milestone in her illustrious legal career. With her vision for a judiciary that upholds the highest standards of justice and integrity, her tenure promises to bring about much-needed reforms that will strengthen Nigeria’s legal system and enhance its role as a cornerstone of democracy.

As she embarks on this critical journey, the nation watches with anticipation, hopeful that her leadership will lead to a judiciary that truly embodies fairness, accountability, and respect for the rule of law.
