“Botswana Welcomes Nigerians: High Commissioner Seeks Expanded Partnership in Business and Tourism”.√√√NewZspy.
The High Commissioner of Botswana to Nigeria, Philda Nani Kereng, has extended a warm invitation to Nigerians to explore the vast opportunities available in Botswana. In a recent interview with Arise TV, Mrs. Kereng expressed her commitment to strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two countries, which she believes has been underutilized over the years.
Highlighting the untapped potential in areas such as infrastructure development, business collaboration, and tourism, Mrs. Kereng emphasized the need for a more substantial and transformative partnership between Nigeria and Botswana. According to her, the existing relationship has been limited to basic diplomatic engagements, such as visa arrangements, without delving into deeper, mutually beneficial collaborations.
“I don’t know what would be the indicators of a strong relationship in this case, but I must comfortably say we have had a bilateral relationship from a long time back. I remember that the embassies of Nigeria and Botswana have been there for quite a long time,” Mrs. Kereng noted.
However, she admitted that the relationship has not evolved significantly beyond these formalities. She pointed out that while the embassies have existed for a considerable period, the focus has primarily been on routine diplomatic activities, without leveraging the full spectrum of opportunities that could enhance the ties between both nations.
Mrs. Kereng is determined to change this narrative by expanding the scope of collaboration. She envisions a relationship that goes beyond the traditional frameworks to include more dynamic and transformative initiatives. These initiatives would include project-based collaborations that bring tangible benefits to both countries, particularly in the areas of infrastructure development, trade, and tourism.
“And that’s why I am going to focus on expanding the relationship, having more of projects going underground. We want to see more movement of Nigerians going to Botswana to appreciate, whether tourism, is business and so forth,” Mrs. Kereng stated.
The High Commissioner believes that by deepening cooperation, both countries can enjoy a richer and more rewarding partnership. She highlighted that there are numerous strategic areas where Nigeria and Botswana can collaborate, leading to long-term benefits for both nations. These areas include tourism, where she sees potential for Nigerians to explore the unique attractions Botswana has to offer, as well as business opportunities that could foster economic growth in both countries.
“So I must say that we are just seeing from the many years of collaboration that was just minimal and subtle in many ways. We want now to build a relationship where both countries can actually enjoy each other more, more opportunities,” she added.
Mrs. Kereng’s remarks reflect a vision for a future where the relationship between Nigeria and Botswana is characterized by mutual growth and development. Her call for more Nigerians to visit Botswana is part of a broader strategy to enhance people-to-people connections, boost tourism, and encourage business exchanges.
In conclusion, the High Commissioner’s outreach to Nigerians signals a new chapter in the diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and Botswana. By fostering closer ties and encouraging greater interaction, both countries stand to gain significantly from each other’s strengths, paving the way for a stronger and more resilient partnership in the years to come.
